“Life can only be understood backwards, right? So I must track all the steps back to live my future with no doubts and questions at the back of my mind.”

During her younger years, Klarity was your typical Hermione Granger: the nerdy girl with braces and bushy hair, the bureaucrat who told on everyone who did wrong, and the girl who everyone bullied for a specific reason. In this case, their reason was because of Klaire’s family history. Her mother was an old woman who was locked in a mental institute for nearly murdering her daughter and her father was rumored to be a demon. They teased her for being the daughter of a witch and being a devil’s advocate. Then puberty hit her and Klaire easily became the popular kid. Braces and glasses gone, she was the intelligent and beautiful girl that everyone looked up to. It was as though she wiped her slate clean and she honestly despised how things could change so easily if you were physically attractive, but she wasn’t bitter. She treated everyone with kindness and she easily forgave all those who bullied her. But things began to change when immortality stopped her from aging.

Being a warlock of the late 1990’s, Klaire immediately noticed how every one of her schoolmates had aged by the year 2029 and she hadn’t. It was then that she decided to pay her mother a visit, who had, it seemed, become even crazier. She had white uncombed hair and rotting teeth and dark eyes that rattled Klaire’s bones. She tried to talk to her mother but all the response she got was her mother staring at a wall and muttering the same phrase over and over again: evil demon and wicked child. She did this until Klaire finally caught her attention and she realized that she was talking to her daughter. She screeched loudly and told her, or rather, screamed, the truth: Her father was an unnamed Greater demon and she was a warlock, which explained the marks on her feet and arms. Something snapped inside Klarity and she immediately ran home and proceeded to try to kill herself multiple times but her inborn magic had saved her. She gave up on taking away her own life and decided to search for help instead. She travelled from her hometown in Washington, DC to New York until she came upon the New York Institute a year after traveling, almost exactly when the new Law was proclaimed. It was that one time when Klarity’s life didn’t seem so bleak.

Klaire hopes to find a new life in this new Law. She wants to learn more about her past and she hopes to improve her future. Despite her tragic past, Klaire has the habit of masking her own emotions for the sake of accommodating other people. While most of the time her kindness really is true, the smiles she always shows to everyone is just a disguise for the pain she really feels inside.

Klaire is still hurting, but she’s secretive by nature, and doesn’t like to show emotions that much, and therefore hides her pain, too. Despite the fact that she’s still hurting, Klaire’s lenient. She easily forgave those who shunned her. Like her name suggests, she seeks clarity about her past and she is eager to learn more about it and hopes to improve her future.
